By sea 48km from Whakatane. This is an active volcanoe. The area offers adventurous and exciting diving. The general area compares favourably with the Poor Knights Islands.

At the edge of the continental shelf, there is a wide range of marine life and fish species (which seem to be bigger than at most offshore islands). There are large schools of blue maomao, big kingfish, that come and check out the diver, and at the Volkner rocks, there is a 6-9 m cavern full of huge golden snapper.
