The harbour is the richest area of the peninsula, with encrusting invertebrates, ascidians, sponges, colourful algae, and nudibranches.
Best areas - The Beacons, Harrington Point and Wellers Rock. The Mole : harbour entrance, voluntary marine reserve. Popular diving area with sunken hulks, weed bed, good fish life. Visibility 3 - 8m. Cape Saunders - road 15km from Dunedin. Experienced divers only, cliffs drop vertically to sea floor 23m. Reefs, rocky bottom, rocks, caves, holes and overhands. Visibility to 18m.
Seal Point - road 13km from Dunedin. Rocks and bull kelp forest to 9m, then drops to 27m and again to 42m. Variety of fish. Visibility 9 18m.
White Island and Green Island - boat 5km from Brighton Beach. Scuba and snorkel diving. Bull kelp forest and prolific fish life. Depth 3 - 30m. Visibility 5 -15m. Ramp.
