Lighthouse Reef jutts out of the sea 450m east of Warden Head Lighthouse on the southern approaches to
the harbour, runs south for a distance of 730m parallel to the mainland and then gradually disappears
underwater. The reef has a protected lee side making it popular for boat diving. Out beyond the reef wall, huge
boulders scattered over the seabed are covered in sea tulips, gorgonian fans, hydroids, sponges and metre
high sea whips. Fish life is prolific. The magnificent Leafy Sea Dragon are often found in pairs amongst the
dense growth. The area is a photographers paradise.
