Bundegi Sanctuary

This trip is normally an afternoon excursion. Generally, the sea breeze gets up in the afternoons, making diving in other areas a little uncomfortable.

Bundegi Sanctuary is the ideal choice in these conditions, being on the sheltered side of the Cape. Bundegi Reef has a sanctuary zone where no fishing is permitted and has therefore become a nursery area for many species of fish. Although the dive sites are relatively shallow, 5 - 8 metres, the dives are spectacular!

Huge porites corals tower up to the surface, schools of reef fish hide under overhangs, and the area is an absolute goldmine for photographers, especially those keen on small invertebrates.

There are many different species of nudibranch in this area for example, and with the shallower depths, the colours are greatly enhanced.

Whales, manta rays and dolphins are often seen on the surface around the reef and in the season, time permitting, divers may snorkel with the mantas.
